Bypass Activation Lock by replacing Logic Board?

I recently made the dumb decision of buying a Mac Mini that is locked. I was not well informed when it comes to Macs and thought I could reset it easily like windows, that is not the case.

Would replacing the Logic Board of the Mac Mini A2348 bypass the Activation Lock? I keep finding contradicting answers so any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated!

If you can prove ownership, an Apple store should be able to help you. They require that because it's to help fight with theft.

Hey @romy_patino , if you replace the logic board you'll have a different computer so yes you'll bypass activation lock, but the new board is completely seperate from the locked one. Basically activation lock sits on the board so that computer with activation lock is now permanently locked & as far as i am aware you can't use any hardware off that board except the micro components.

Hope this helps :). Let me know if it doesn't make sense

I’m not looking to reuse any components from the logic board with activation lock. I already spent $100 on the locked Mac off eBay, so at this point I’d just rather spend the $200 on a new board rather than $300 on another used Mac.

But just for clarification, if I replace the logic board I then shouldn’t have any activation lock since it’s essentially a different computer now?

Thanks for your help!

That's right, new logic board = new computer :)
