Here's a video that shows how to replace the Power and Volume button flex cable that may help.
If the flex cable is faulty search online for GH96-13396A to find suppliers that suit you best. (supplier examples only)
If the Volume button is the problem, search online for GH98-45343A to find suppliers that suit you best. (supplier examples only)

If you open up the tablet you can check the state of the volume button, as its function is to operate the switch which is located on the flex cable.
Basically the button is just an actuator and the switch is separate to it.
If you can manage it see if you can push to the switch on the flex cable to see if it works.

How do I know if it's the flex cable or just the volume button? The power button works, but the volume button is gone.

Thanks so much! Samsung told me it was part of the motherboard and the tablet was useless. My son can't remember the pass code to get in the tablet and I couldn't factory reset because there was no volume button.
