I have disassembled my ps2 for cleaning, all was working absolutely fine, however when putting it all back together, when I put a disc in it doesn’t spin up at all, any ideas? I know the laser works because it was working before, I’ve checked ribbon connections etc they are all good, I can’t see anything I’ve done wrong so I’m out of ideas.

Hi Luke!
This is regarding the original PS2, right? It probably is the laser or the ribbon cable. The original PS2 do not use sensors (the PS2 Slim do).
You might want to check them both out. Sorry!

Yep original ps2. Ribbon cables look fine to me and like I said it was working fine about 30 minutes prior to me reassembling so it’s very strange.
Almost unlikely that the laser died then. You sure that the ribbon cables are all the way in? If yes, does everything look fine on the motherboard? No components missing or damaged?
What ribbon cables do I need to look out for exactly? I’ll try and add some photos when I get a chance.
