Kenmore Elite HE4 Intermitent not starting.

Kenmore Elite Electric Dryer smartheat quietPak9 HE4 Model #110.85088400

Symptoms:

(Intermitent symptoms)

Some buttons in the control panel don't do nothing when pressed. ( Time Dry, Express Dry).

Other buttons light up when pressed (Normal, Casual, touch up ) but Start button will not start the machine. (No beep or click sound when pressed.)

Diagnose mode doesn't come up when pressing more time + less time buttons multiple times.

Then suddenly after some time everything works. Diagnose mode comes up and no errors show up.

After using the dryer it seems that the next day doesn't work again.

I checked these:

Belt is ok

Thermal fuse ok

Thermistor ok

Disconnected dryer for periods of time to reset control panel.

When nothing works only after some time everything suddenly works.

Seems to me some component is faulty but I can't determine which one. Any ideas?

Hi @fernando40429,

Did you check all the wiring harness connections on the control panel, loose, corroded etc, you never said?

Hi @jayeff, I've only checked the main control board previously. I was trying to find burned circuits. Everything looked fine.

I will check the control panel board next since I have to open the front to get access and test the door switch which I haven't yet. I will check the cables too as you suggested (thanks)

However if a switch was bad, shouldn't it be always bad?. Last night we used the dryer, this morning was not working...then by 11 am. Buttons light up and everything works.

Hi @fernando40429

Could be corrosion or loose connection (dry solder joint??).

Heat expands, cold contracts.

Overnight it is cooler so metal contracts and maybe not a good electrical connection.

As the ambient temp increase metal expands so maybe good electrical connection is re-established.

Who knows ? ;-)

Intermittent problems are difficult. All you can do is check the most likely and hope to narrow down the area where the problem is.

Perhaps use a hair dryer in different places on the control board connection, control board etc to warm it up and then try. Quicker than waiting anyway.

Cheers
