Problems after Screen Replacement

I accidentally broke my galaxy A04s screen and went for a replacement. after the replacement, the phone began to exhibit strange behaviour:

  1. The phone restarts on its own
  2. The screen goes blank and doesn't come back on even after pressing the power button.
  3. Sometimes the screen doesn't respond to unless restarted.

What might be the cause?

Hi Jeffery,

Did you do the screen replacement yourself, or take it to a shop for repair?

If the former, you'll need to open the phone back up and retrace your steps, verifying all of the connectors are undamaged and securely inserted in place.

If you paid someone to do the replacement, you need to take it back to them to have them check their work, as they obviously did something wrong.

Update (07/19/24)

Welp, that's kind of an odd combination of problems, so it's hard to pin down a specific thing that might be causing it, but let's take a look and see what we can think of.

On your phone there are basically two ways to replace a faulty display; first you can just replace the LCD by itself, which means gluing it back onto the frame, or you can purchase the screen already mounted on the frame assembly.

The first case is a little less work in terms of removing components, but that's offset by needing to glue and clamp the screen back on as it dries. The second method is actually the recommended way to do it; the screen+frame assembly is a couple of bucks more in cost, but you generally save that by not having to buy glue. The two methods require a completely different set of instructions, but I did locate an iFixit-style guide for the latter procedure showing how to gut the phone and transplant all of the internals to a new frame/screen assembly.

Galaxy A04s Screen Block Repair - Free Guide - SOSav.fr

The guide is in French, but the Chrome browser can easily translate it to English or whatever your native language is, and it's quiet well written.

Since you're not getting any satisfaction from the shop that fixed it, you can certainly take a look at it yourself. Follow the steps of the guide and at every point where a connector is removed or plugged in, take the time to examine both sides of it under a magnifying glass and a bright light looking for bent or broken pins. In addition, you'll want to examine the flex cables as well, looking for any extreme kinks or bends in them that could have damaged the conductors inside, as well as any actual tears in the flex cable. When reassembling the connectors, be sure to clean both sides with 90% or higher concentration isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, then give it a minute to dry before plugging it back in.

Looking over the guide, I don't think there's any real need to remove the battery and it doesn't appear that you need any glue for the rear panel, as it seems to just clip on. Also, you don't necessarily have to remove all the parts, but be sure to take off anything that needs to be removed in order to access a connector on the back side or underneath it.

You'll have to use your own judgement, but assuming your shop replaced the screen+frame assembly, you can safely assume they had to unplug everything so you'll need to recheck everything.

That's what I'd do in your situation; if that's beyond your comfort zone then it may be time to find a different shop to take a look at it and try and figure out what the first place did wrong.
