black screen due to impact

My iPad Pro was dropped vertically, and the side next to the home button hit the ground. The screen went black without breaking or cracking and was somewhat separated from the underlying metal frame. The touch screen and the home button do not respond. However, syncing the iPad with the PC using iTunes and screen mirroring tools shows that the applications and other data in the iPad and even Voice Over are healthy and undamaged. The wake/sleep button and the volume up/down buttons that were not on the side of the collision work properly, and I can hear the iPad. What damage do you think the iPad suffered? Given that the screen has not been broken or cracked, is it possible to repair the iPad without replacing the screen?

@ashopp going by your description alone and not seeing what you see, it does sound like an internal damaged display. Of course you should always check the display cable and connector but ultimately it does sound like you will need a new screen. If you let us know what exact model your Pro is, we may even have a guide for that.
