Cold solder joints? Instrument cluster loses power but powers on cold

2008 Ford Crown Victoria instrument cluster works but once the inside temperature rises the cluster loses power. It will work again after the vehicle sits for a while in the cold weather. I believe it is "dry" or "cold" solder joints caused by the use of unleaded or low-lead solder used on the solder connections of the circuit board, probably the cable connector pins but might also be elsewhere on the board. Has anyone ever experienced this issue and resolved it? I'd appreciate hearing how it was resolvedby DYI. Thanks.

Seeing that the unit is well over 5 years old and solder joints usually in other electronics should be inspected in 5 year gaps I would say it might be a bad solder point. Finding the solder point would be my first action. Solder connections without maintainance can develop these issues over time in my experience.

@edburns68659 had similar issues with my F-150. Did a quick reflow after checking the components and so far it has held out ok. Give it a try since you really got nothing to lose. Either it'll work or you have to look for a replacement anyway :-)
