shuts down after a few minutes of heavy use

Good guys. I hope you all are good.

I have a Asus laptop that I just picked from a friend. Its a 17inch I7 with 12gbram. What I've noticed since I started using it is that it shuts down after a few minutes of heavry use....I initially thought it was the over hearting issue but it doesn't appear so as I can hear the fan running when it gets a bit hot. What I'm finding hard to understand is why it doesn't want to switch back on after it shuts down, I have to leave it for like 30min or so before I can switch it on. Do any of you guys know what could be the issue or how I could fix this ?

Hi @pholanisithole,

What is the model number of the laptop?

This for sure sounds like an overheating issue. What I would recommend doing is by cleaning your fans as they might be clogged with dust, which can make it much harder for them to keep the laptop from overheating.

You could also replace the thermal paste, but that would be quite difficult considering that you would need to get to the processor chip in order to do that, which would most likely involve removing the heat sink which tends to be quite difficult, so I would recommending finding a tutorial for doing that online for your laptop (make sure you know your laptop's model as different laptops require different procedures).

It might still be an over heating issue due to thermalpaste drying up on the CPU. It will shut down to preserve itself.

@markusnorstroem yup! Now all you have to do, is to tell the OP what needs to get done and how to do it. Remember, a good answer provides solutions.
