Black Fuzzy Screen but can hear microphone

Hello!

I recently picked up a Nintendo Famcicom for pretty cheap off ebay, to power it i have picked up this power adapter from console 5 https://console5.com/store/9v-1300ma-ul-...

I have the TV set to channel 95/96 which is the Japanese channel 1/2.

Hitting the power switch causes a black screen with fuzzy moving blue and green anomalies. If a cartridge is inserted into the console I can hear audio coming from the controller II microphone. No game audio. Ive cleaned the cartridge and connector incredibly thouroughly. There’s clearly some sort of processing going on in the console because i can hear the microphone through the TV when a cartridge is inserted.

I swapped out the 7805 voltage regulator, but no change, i have some spare capacitors to replace as well but i don’t want to start throwing parts at this thing without a cause.

Any help is appreciated

EDIT 2/11/24

Voltage regulator and all capacitors replaced, board, cartridges, and cart slot have been cleaned and then cleaned again for good measure. Same result with no change. Ive ordered a known working cartridge because I only have one and am unsure if it works

Post updated to include board photos after voltage regulator, cap replacement and cleaning. Not sure what the quality of these photos will be over internet compression. However the Board revision is HVC-CPU-07

@mike2021 that console is almost 30 years old. You can pretty much be going on the assumption that all of your electrolytic capacitors will have to be replaced. You also need to check your traces for corrosion damaged, which is pretty normal given the age of this. Disassemble it, clean teh board, replace the caps, clean the board, check the traces, repair any damaged traces and clean some more. Post some good pictures of your boards so we can see what you see and hopefully we can help you to get it fixed.

@oldturkey03 ive replaced the electrolytic caps and cleaned the board again for good measure. However the Issue still persists. Updated post has more photos and information.

Thanks for your reply

@mike2021 1st image top right hand side looks like one of the legs is not quite soldered on and I can't be sure if there are any solder bridges. Can you post an image of that area only. Take it straight on instead of at an angle. It could just be residual flux....

@oldturkey03 post updated with picture. Those pads are super close together but I didn’t see any bridging or bad joints there.

@mike2021 I'd just check with a meter and see if there is continuity between those. They do look awfully close to each other -) Resolder the above capacitor as well. Just to make sure it's not a cold solder joint.

BTW how are you connecting the Famicom to your TV?

@oldturkey03 meter shows no continuity between any of the pins, each pin does have continuity to its corresponding point on the main board as well, resoldered all those points and the capacitor and no dice, same result.

I’ve connected the famicom to my TV with both an NES RF switch and an RF to coax adapter. both work fine for my other RF consoles. Switch is set to TV but i have also tried the GAME switch position which just makes it lose signal. Channel switch has been set to both 96 and 95, both do the black static and i can hear the controller 2 microphone but no game audio.

Dug a little deeper with a logic probe and the chips are oscillating so they should be working. None of the chips are getting terribly hot.
