Does Mini 6 Touch ID lock button replacement need to be paired?

Hi, I have two iPad mini 6's and would like to swap the Touch ID button from the old one to the new one. They both work, but the new one is loose in its socket with a weird rattle. I remember when Touch ID first came out, the button was paired with the motherboard and only Apple had the equipment to re-pair a replacement button. Since that time, I feel like I've read that this is no longer the case, but I can't find any straight answers online that are more recent. I know I can phyiscally make the swap, but it's a lot of work if it just turns out to not work in the end. Does anyone have a current answer about that? Thanks.

You felt wrong, it is always the case.

Tom's answer is, as usual, terse but right on the money. All Apple products that feature Touch ID or Face ID have the components involved paired to the motherboard. There are no exceptions, so as you've observed, yes you can physically swap the Touch ID parts. The button function will continue to work but Touch ID will be disabled.

Thanks for the reply. Would've been even better without the snark.
