Is PCI-E Slot replacement a thing?

Hello Everyone! I hope everybody is having a good day!

My main PCI-E slot is pretty worn compared to the second one that is not used and is giving me bad connection with my GPU.

My PC would randomly restart without warning or bsod

I have troubleshooted each components Ram, CPU, GPU, PSU, SSD, HDD without issues (used my brother's PC as test bench) and it just points to one component the Motherboard which I think is around 3yrs old now.

I have also done multiple driver uninstall and reinstall.

This is the second PCI-E which is unused

This is the main PCI-E slot and by looking at the pins the spacing between the upper pins and lower pins is a lot larger compared to the unused PCI-E slot (first photo)

Specs:

RYZEN 5600X

MSI X570 CARBON AC WIFI

CORSAIR VENGEANCE 32GB 3600Mhz CL18

Deepcool AIO

ADATA 512GB SSD

WD Black 8tb HDD

EVGA 1200P2 (1200W Platinum)

Hi @allanjuntilla,

What is the make and model number of the GPU card?

Can't you install it in the unused PCIe slot?

さんによる

@jayeff Hi, I definitely can but it would run at a lower performance about -10%.

I seem to have forgotten to put the GPU, It is an ASUS TUF 6800XT (Non OC)

The board having only 1 PCIe 4 x 16 slot limits the options I suppose

Replacing PCIe sockets is not an easy job, especially if you haven't done it before.

I would suggest that you get hold of some old boards first to practice on, so that you know how much heat to apply when unsoldering them from the motherboard and then resoldering in the new one.

Get it wrong and you can cause more problems than what you originally have.

Here's a video that may help.
