PS4 console only turns on sometimes

My PS4 console recently shut down twice during gameplay, and since then I have been struggling to get it turned on at all. Sometimes it will turn on and sometimes it will not. When it does turn on, I have only had it run for less than a minute and it dies again. I have tried multiple outlets and cleaned the system of as much dust as possible a couple of months ago. Any advice?

I wonder if this is an issue with the power supply

That is what I would assume. I thought issues with the power supply would normally prevent it from turning on at all? Maybe it is not delivering a constant supply of power to the console?

i think you're right. does it seem to get really hot during gameplay? could it be shutting itself off due to heat and then preventing start up for the same reason?

The fans are quite loud. Even after cleaning the system of dust a couple of months ago, it did not seem to affect the fan noise much if at all. I did think about replacing the thermal paste after it shut down twice during 45min of play. The strangest part is that it will turn on only sometimes.

@danehoffmann overheating may also prevent it from turning on normally. if it's too hot, it will simply refuse to power on. does the issue with powering it on only occur immediately after it has powered itself off, or all the time? if it's all the time, it may be something else.

in any case, i suggest cleaning the fan again and replacing the thermal paste. when i opened up my ps4, the thermal paste as applied by the factory was in dreadful shape. i wouldn't be surprised if you find yours is the same way.

I can leave it off overnight, and it will still not power on the next morning. Then randomly after unplugging and plugging it in again it will power on. This is what makes the diagnosis tricky. Perhaps I should remove the power supply and test it with a multimeter.
