drain battery on non-working phone

I need to do a repair on my iPhone 6s plus but I can't get it out of mid-update, so it's basically sleeping and the battery is fully charged. Is there a way to discharge the battery safely but more quickly than just letting it sit for a week or more? I can't even see how much charge is remaining.
