Kid dropped it now it won’t turn on

It was sitting on my desk and my 2yo pulled it off onto the floor. When I press the power button nothing happens, but if I plug it into the charger the fans spin for a few seconds and the keyboard lights up for a few seconds. The power and charge lights come on but that’s it.

Does anything look damaged in the outside?

Does anything rattle or sound loose on the inside of the device?

Have you opened up the device to make sure nothing is loose? (SSD, RAM, ect.)

さんによる

I have opened it, nothing rattled beforehand and I couldn’t find anything loose

@dallasbreeden have you tried taking the laptop apart, and reseating the connectors?

さんによる

I have not, I will try that in the morning. If that doesn’t work what should I try?

さんによる

@dallasbreeden connect an external monitor and see if that displays anything. If so, it is your LCD that has suffered. Was it open and running when it came off the desk?

Take out one stick of ram and see if that works. Since your charging port has a spark, its probably not a ram issue, but try. The way that you were describing the laptop behavior sounds like a ram issue to me. Hope this helps.

Removing ram worked!!!! It boots and is now updating steam. Where can I find a new ram stick? Maybe an upgrade?

さんによる

I would try popping back in the ram stick you took out and see if it works. Sometimes they can get loose and need to be popped back in again. I found a ram stick here https://a.co/d/5J9tgKH. I would look at the ram stick you took out and enter the model into your browser and go from there.

Okay, I greatly appreciate your help, the ram is in fact dead, I put it back in and it reverted back to its previous behavior, but once removing it again it immediately posted. I will be replacing it as soon as possible for me. Thank you all very very much!!!!

I purchased a new stick of ram and I installed it, however it’s still acting the same as before

Sorry for the super late response. The socket could have gotten damaged during the drop. Make sure there is nothing in the socket that could prevent contact to the ram. Try spraying some compressed air into the slot. It is definitely possible a pin got damaged in the socket during the drop. If the steps above didn’t work then you’re out of luck…at least from me. Another user may find a solution for you, but I am out of troubleshooting steps. Let’s just hope the motherboard isn’t damaged. Hope for the best.
