Vintage Handmixer Cracks&Pops
Cheers all !
This is a VINTAGE CLASSIC 1960S HANDMIXER ABC-MIX
Anyone smart & witty with vintage out there? : )
So the unit has been faultless for years but recently some irritating "pops and cracks" have been heard using it, during longer sessions when the unit warms up sufficiently - apparently. Before a tiny crack sound was heard, but nothing else and the mixer worked as usual. Yesterday a louder pop was heard and I stopped surprised, there was smoke coming out - but ! the unit works still. What the heck is happening here??!?
Thnx any tips & advice appreciated !

@henriko Can you take the unit apart again and upload new pictures of the insides? I'm suspecting the capacitor, but not completely positive. iFixitでの質問に画像を追加する方法

Of course. Will do. Opened it and checked it anyway several times for security reasons (especially that the AC main cords are protected and not damaged by heat), some own mods also made (speed connector, soldered one wire that was so close to break free from its solder) but it's otherwise original

Hi @henriko
You may have to contrive any mechanical parts that are broken/faulty etc, if you want to fix it.
Here's the mixer I think. If I've got the correct one then the company that made it no longer exists. Probably because they made products that lasted for 50+ years ;-)
Do you have a DMM (digital multimeter)?

@henriko Yeah, that capacitor looks like it's shot. What country are you from (so I can find the right distributor for you)?

@andrewsawesome Yesss thought so too, it was this one that cracked and popped. I'm in Finland. Andrew, how can I promote you? And as this is a paper wax capacitor, it doesn't blow the mixer apart does it? I remember you wrote it won't give any big bangs or fires right.
I think now, studying it in detail, that the capacitor was touching the metal casing of the motor, that is extremely hot (burns even through the plastic), so I now corrected its position, so that it does not touch the metal parts at all.
