OpenCore Legacy Patcher vs Dos Dudes Patchers

I've used Dos Dudes patches to upgrade MacOS system on unsupported Mac for several years but many of the upgrades have bugs like not being recognized for upgrades or not being able to log into iCloud. I am now hearing about OpenCore and upgrades on really older Macs (2008) even going to Ventura. Had anyone had experience with using either of these and which patches are preferable.

Here's some info on the latest 0.6.6 Open Core Patcher that I'm looking at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twho3qsr...

Also the 0.6.8 Patcher:

I have used the Opencore Patcher on a 2010 MacBook Pro 13”, 2012 MacBook Pro 13”, and MacBook Pro 15” 2015 w/ AMD DGPU on Ventura and it is very stable on the systems and I have rarely encountered issues. The 2010 MBP without Metal is pretty buggy and has graphical glitches due to lack of Metal support but the 2012+ Macs with Metal supported GPUs are extremely stable. It feels like a native machine and I usually forget it is a patched machine when using it. The 2010 and 2012 can be a bit laggy and slow which is understandable but the 2015 feels just fine. If you want speed I would recommend Monterey. Of course, you want to keep backups just in case but I have never had an install break or experience any issues that weren’t self inflicted.

I'm currently running Catalina on my 2010 MacPro using Dos Dudes Patcher and will try it one one of the drives there first. What I don't know is if I can use the 0.6.8 over Dos Dudes patch.

I note you've never filled out a profile on yourself and you've been around for 3 years with lots of good answers, would be nice to know more about you.

@mayer AFAIK, you can install Opencore Legacy Patcher onto Dosdude1 Catalina as long as you install it over top of it and not do a direct upgrade. Just like reinstalling macOS without formatting the drive. The official website has great documentation about this (https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Lega...) but I did an upgrade a while back from DosDude1 patched Catalina to OCLP Big Sur on my 2010 MacBook Pro and it went largely without issues. I have been meaning to fill out of my profile and I would love to do it I just haven’t gotten around to it. I just might tonight.
