My right joycon simply refuses to pair wirelessly

In handheld mode my right joycon works all fine and dandy, but when I take it out of the console to use it wirelessly the right joycon does not want to pair. Trying to find it using the nintendo wireless buzz thing does not work, it simply just shows a "?" and the joycon does not buzz.
