@kuldeepyadav is pretty indicative of your computer not finding the OS. Sometimes a bad button battery on the motherboard can be faulty too. It is responsible for keeping your BIOS information when your computer is off. Also, check the RAM modules and make sure that they are properly seated.

On startup hit the F2 button (may take a couple of times) to enter the BIOS. Once you are in the BIOS check for a boot devices. See if your computer can still find your HDD.

You could also try and set the boot order to USB and get a bootable USB drive. Boot from that and try to access your HDD. I use Puppy Linux Live CD installed on a USB flash drive and use it to gain access. If you need help with that, check on here.

F12 is more reliable here. Much faster.

@nick F12 is for the boot menu. I prefer F2 to check the BIOS itself to make sure the rest of the devices are good :-)

@oldturkey03 Newer Dells show the drives in both places with enough detail I can quickly tell in the boot menu, so it's neutral. It generally shows in both places on the old ones, but less visible specifics on non-HD devices.

Boot menu data MIGHT BE LIMITED on this being so old.

@nick yes, but this is a Dell OptiPlex GX620 so all the more reason to go with the complete BIOS check :-)

@oldturkey03 It's probably a dead HD, quite frankly. A good chunk of the old Dells failed this way when the drive died where it's half dead, or seen something but it clicks or fails to start. Once they went to UEFI, they fail in a cleaner way unless the drive is really screwed up.
