Why does my laptop fail to turn on after being shut off?

When you do a hard reset, when it is started after this, is there a message stating that the date and time are incorrect?

Perhaps the RTC (aka cmos) battery has become depleted and this allows the BIOS to become corrupted preventing a normal start and you overcome this by doing a hard reset.

Here's a video that at 1:03 minutes shows the RTC plug in coin cell battery (wrapped in black insulation cover) on the motherboard.

Disconnect the RTC battery and measure its voltage. If it is <2.5V DC replace it. The type number should be on the battery but it is too small for me to read it in the video. Search online using the information on the battery, to find suppliers that suit you best.

Note:

When working inside a laptop, always disconnect the main battery from the motherboard as soon as it is accessible and reconnect it as late as possible in the reassembly so as to avoid any potential electrical problems from occurring. You don't have to remove the battery, simply disconnect it.

There is always some power on the motherboard even when the laptop is turned off. The power button is not a power isolating button. Think of the laptop as being in an extremely low power state when off and not that it is totally disconnected from any power at all.

Also wear a wrist strap connected to a suitable earth point to prevent any ESD damage from occurring as well if you happen to inadvertently touch any components that you shouldn't.
