Can I take the back off without voiding warranty?

There's a rattling sound coming from inside my Kindle. It's not worth returning just because of that, but I wouldn't mind taking the back off to see if a bit of plastic or a screw is rolling around in there.

It looks like in the teardown of the Kindle 2 that the back prises off without it being obvious to Amazon I had done so, thus keeping my warranty intact. Is that the case? And does it apply to Kindle 3 as well?

Probably just a piece of plastic, they press these out in China and it could be just excess plastic trim shaking around. If its under warranty have them check it out if it pesters you that much.

Otherwise, I wouldn't risk voiding the warranty in addition to possibly causing more damage to a device that is working but has a little plastic rolling around inside.

If that rattle really gets you, and you have the warranty, call Amazon service up - do some straight up, but polite talking they might take it back and give you a discount on a Kindle Fire for your inconvenience.

Ok thanks John, I won't open it and I'll preserve my warranty in case it really goes wrong!
