Why is my computer spontaneously turning off while playing games?

Hello
Two weeks ago I brought a brand new computer and after a while of using it, i notice something very strange. My computer spontaneously turned off while playing. What was strange about it that computer shutdown was in some sort of phases .
1. My monitores went black but i still was hearing sounds from game and discord in my headphones.
2. After like 2-3 seconds my friends couldnt hear me via discord but i still heard them (no sound from the game).
3. After 7-10 second computer shut down a system, but not himself (fans was still going) and rebuting a Windows 10.

And it happends like 2 time a week.

Does anyone know what could be the problem here? It happend whlie playing those games:
Escape From Tarkov - FullScreen/Bordeless,
Unturned - FullScreen
League of Legends - FullScreen.

I thougt meaby processor was overheating so i cup it at 180W and he never went up more then 77C. But PC Still turned off.

Im not a hardcore player and im mainly using my pc for blender and photoshop and it never happend while using those programs.

Here are spec of PC
- Intel Core i9-13900KF
- Motherboard MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4
- G.Skill Ripjaws V, DDR4, 32 GB, 4000MHz, CL18
- Samsung 990 PRO 1 TB M.2
- RTX 4070Ti
- Water Cooling MSI MAG Core Liquid 360R V2 3x120mm
- be quiet! Straight Power 11 1000W 80 Plus Gold
- Palit GeForce RTX 4070 Ti GameRock Classic
- Windows 10 Enterprise - 22H2 Update

I really would like to get some help, beacuse i dont know what to do.

Sincerely
Paul

Did you overclock/undervolt it?

No, only set max WATTs in Bios, max 180W for the processor.

Hi Krzemin, a low-spec related crash seems unlikely to me (btw congrats on ur impressive rig), on paper your PSU should be plenty capable of pushing this high-end build, cpu+GPU combined power consumption should be around 530W (253+277), full system will probably reach 650-700w (I take it the double "RTX 4070Ti"s on ur list is a typo, however if you do have a SLI setup it may infact be too much for that psu to handle when you start pushing the system to the limit).

If you already made sure the components' temperatures look good, I suggest you move on to checking the system's log, here's an how-to, just open Event viewer and browse 'Windows logs' > 'System' and look out for recent error reports. This way we can try to figure out if the crash is due to software bugs, bad drivers, hardware failures etc.

My computer just crashed again and I've found out in windows logs (idk, how it translates from Polish to English version), there is an Error

- Volmgr 161 and 2 seconds later Kernel-Power

If you need more specified things, please let me know.

@Krzemin Just wondering, is this a clean install of W10, or an update? However, first and foremost I'd backup any important data you have on there, then move on to troubleshooting: here you have 5 possible fixes for the kernel-power error: https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/fix-window...

Namely, in short:

- update windows (the error may also have been triggered by a recent upgrade, in this case a rollback could fix this)

- Disable fast startup

- Reseat RAM and GPU (also run a memtest while you're at it)

- use diagnostic tools like CHKDSK, SFC and DISM

- check your PSU health

Other things that might work:

- update your audio device driver, disable duplicate device drivers, modify power settings (ref. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind...)

- update the mobo's chipset driver and firmware (ref. https://www.windowsphoneinfo.com/threads...)

- update GPU driver

- disable automatic restart from Advanced settings, so you can see the error message clearly on screen when occurs

Try gameing if you have on different GPU or only on CPU if it has onboard gpu. see if it crashes . if not its a PSU problem. Also it can be from win10 so I suggest trying different OS (like 7 or 8 maybe). Can also be from drivers. Bios setting has CPU-shootdown temp somewhere so it may also be a board design fault , not enough current on MB(somewhere). it may also be a GPU problem, was it new? (try older drivers crimson or anything the oldest you can find working with the GPU).

hello, There could be several reasons why your computer is spontaneously turning off while playing games. Some of the most common reasons include:

  1. Overheating: Playing games can put a significant amount of strain on your computer's hardware, causing it to generate a lot of heat. If your computer is not adequately cooled, it may shut down to prevent damage to the components.
  2. Power supply issues: If your computer's power supply is not providing enough power to the components when they need it, it may shut down.
  3. Driver issues: Outdated or faulty drivers can cause your computer to shut down, particularly if they are related to the graphics card or other components used for gaming.
  4. Malware or virus infections: Malware or virus infections can cause your computer to behave erratically, including shutting down unexpectedly.
  5. Hardware issues: Faulty hardware, such as a failing graphics card or power supply, can cause your computer to shut down.

To diagnose the issue, you can try monitoring your computer's temperature using a program like Core Temp or SpeedFan to see if overheating is the problem. You should also ensure that your computer is clean and free of dust and debris, as this can cause overheating. Additionally, make sure that your drivers are up to date and that your computer is free of malware or viruses. If the problem persists, it may be necessary to consult a professional for assistance.

I can tell you that I have a BE QUIET! Straight Power 11 as well. Mine is a Platinum 850w which is only about 2 years old and always kept clean. I am currently trying to diagnose the same basic issue of spontaneous PC shutdowns while gaming. It usually happens within the first 2-3 minutes of launching the game. But not every game. Less graphically intense games either last a lot longer or don't crash my PC at all. It has been getting progressively worse over the past couple days. I've tried just about every troubleshoot imaginable from software, driver and BIOS updates and roll backs to Mem-tests, different cables, Stress tests, temp and voltage monitoring etc, etc.. Both my CPU and GPU run cool and have normal voltage and temps in all of my stress tests. I've run simultaneous stress tests maxing both out and they function normally which is very strange considering a game that hammers them less shuts the whole system down. After all my testing, I kept coming back to a GPU driver issue but no matter which driver I use in the last year of driver releases, it doesn't seem to make any difference. I always did fresh GPU driver installs after a DDU safe mode uninstall and reinstall. I'm basically down to it's either something faulty on the motherboard or it's the PSU which are both very hard to diagnose. My RX 6950XT GPU is just past warranty so I may open it up and check paste and thermal pads to rule that out if the new PSU I ordered doesn't fix it. I had a Seasonic 850w before the Be Quiet one I have now. The Seasonic lasted me almost 8 years before the 5v rail died. If it turns out to be my current Be Quiet Straight Power 11 that is at fault, I will never be buying from them again. Very expensive for it to go out within 2 years. We shall see.. I'll update this when the new PSU shows up in a couple days.

Was the psu the problem?

In case this hasn't been resolved, I would monitor your temperatures closely, especially for your GPU and CPU. I had a similar issue and it turns out my new GPU was missing a thermal pad on its VRAM module, causing it to crash spontaneously and die.

Hi man, where you able to locate the problem? I'm having a similar problem and happen to have the same motherboard (except it's the ddr5 variant) which makes me wonder if maybe that could be it
