How to identify the cause of Backlight Failure in Satellite X205-S9800

I have a Backlight Failure in my Toshiba Satellite X205-S9800. In the past few weeks when I turned on the laptop the screen was red and then would slowly turn to normal colors. Same when the screen was waking up from sleep. And today it turned off while I was working. I can barely see the icons on the desktop. I found an article on this site which says that there could be three different causes of this failure - Lid Close Switch, Faulty Inverter Board, or Backlight Lamp. So how do identify which is the cause in my case?

Hi @fhertzwo

To do this you would need the schematics for the motherboard so you could determine exactly what the cause of the problem was, otherwise it is only guess work, which could possibly take a long time.

You would also need to know how to read schematic diagrams and how to use a digital multimeter.

What is the model number of the motherboard, (printed on the motherboard)?

Knowing this may help to find a free download of the schematics, as the only thing that I could find in the way of schematics by using the laptop's make and model number was this supplier but you have to purchase it.

Thank you for the answer but, I don't think I have enough skills to go down that path. Is there another way?

I assume the lid switch is not an issue since I did not touch the lid when the screen stopped working. So it comes down to either the inverter or the lamp. If this is the lamp, do I need to replace the whole screen?

@fhertzwo

The LCD panel is backlit using a CCFL tube (cold cathode fluorescent lamp) but I can't find a replacement when searching online. Also I can't find a replacement inverter board but if you know the board number it may be easier to locate.

This video doesn't show how to remove/replace the CCFL so I don't know even if it can be.

It looks like the inverter board is being removed at 19:02 minutes into the video.
