Steam coming out of oil fill and throttle body
I'm working on a 1990 Geo Metro and I just put in a new fuel tank and fuel pump. This car has sat for 12 years so that stuff was rusty. But now the fuel injector wasn't working. I took it out and then fuel came out everywhere, which then the car was able to run off of the fuel sitting in throttle body. But then it started steaming/smoking, it looks like water vapor but its very noticeable. I put fuel injector back in and even if I crank it for only a few seconds its steaming a lot again. I think the fuel injector is leaking a tiny bit of fuel when i try to start it because when I dry the area off and try to start for a second its wet with fuel again, but its not working enough to actually start. I would get a new injector, but I'm concerned about all of this steam. Where is this steam coming from?
@carsman248 have you done a compression test on this engine? My concern would be that you are either having a bad head gasket or bad rings/piston. Bad injector can cause this too when your engine runs rich. This is difficult to assess since we don't see the smoke what it smells, looks like. Take a look at your plug face. What do the electrodes look like?
