So I am trying to get my fathers old G3 working and the left hinge just gave up the ghost. It broke in two different places and I don't know if its fixable and I can't find any being sold except for being part of a complete screen which go for a lot of money

This was a well known issue on this model. Here's a pictorial on replacing it:
