It seems that the CMOS memory has been lost.

The internal CMOS battery got completely discharged and stayed like this for a long time. Since I do not use the regular battery anymore (did not replace the original battery), I think that after I disconnected the notebook from the AC charger for days the CMOS battery was lost. I have replaced the CMOS battery, but the notebook will not start. How could I solve this? Thank you.

Are you sure you connected the CMOS battery correctly? Look at page 8 in the Service Manual.

You say "the notebook will not start." Do any lights come on at all. Can you at least get into the BIOS settings?

@luizman not starting would not be an issue with the CMOS (RTC) Battery. You do want to check your power supply dfirst. Make sure that you have the right voltage etc. then check the DC in jack on your computer and make sure that it is in good working order and not bend or corroded etc. After that download the service manual from here and disassembly your computer check the power in circuitry. Start with the easy things first; your power supply.

This is for the OP: I use a Dell 130W adapter from my E6540 (the notebook is long gone due to a dead 8790M GPU like so many :(, I still wish I caught the heatpipe blowout before I killed my GPU), works fine on the D series. The old style adapters from the era die a lot of the time, but the new ones do not. A 90W unit will suffice, even for the NVS130M lawsuit version. I find 130W to be the best middle ground, especially since I have had machines like the Inspiron 9300 (absolute power hog of a 17" AMD GPU monster!!!) to erase for others which tend to need it.

It's hot running tendencies took me off guard.
