Dead iPod - Did anyone solved this by changing battery?

I have bought several dead ipod touches and now I'm wondering if it's really worth the hassle of replacing their batteries in the hope that they will come back to life. I NEVER had sucess by replacing dead ipod's batteries.

Did anyone ever had sucess with this?

I mean complete sucess, I've had a few ipods which woke up with a new battery but wouldn't charge it so that's not a sucess.
