sub par wifi problem in my Mac Studio

I have the similar sub par wifi problem in my Mac Studio. Lifting up Mac Studio doesn't help at all.

I found that it performs faster if I use 15 year old tech 802.11 n. I can get 29Mbit/sec. If I used 802.11 x at 5Ghz, I could only get 8Mbit/sec.

At the exact same spot, my 2013 MacBook Air connect through 802.11 ac at 5Ghz, I could get 101Mbit/sec.

Note that the another end in iperf3 is my Dell T20 connecting through ethernet -> switch -> Unify U6-LR.

I booked an appointment today in Apple Store and see what the solution genus can provide. If not, I will just return it.

My Studio is normally wired but I just did a test and it runs on WiFi6 only at the limit of my connection speed (1GB).

I'm wondering if there's some nearby interference on your 802.11ax channel.

Before you trudge off to the "Genius" at the Apple store have you tried moving the Studio to a different location in your workspace? Have you tried a different channel for 802.11ax?

To Add to @craigburdett answer I would get a good WiFi analyzer app like WiFi Explorer from the App Store that way you can see what bands are less used and I would look at the Signal & Noise levels from within your WiFi menu by pressing the Option key when you click on the WiFi Icon.

Also make sure your system is sitting on a radio transparent surface. A metal desk will block the signals unlike a wood or glass desk top. Look at where your AP is located as well as the 5GHz bands don't travel through brick, stone, metal or other heavy materials.

Plug the RJ 45 into it straight from the router, wifi in alot of Macs is "subpar" i have circumnavigated Apples wifi this way for years.

NO MORE WIFI WORRIES!

While a wired connection will get you the best network performance, it doesn't offer the same ease of connectivity WiFi does. But it does take a bit more work to setup correctly!

The very first thing is making sure your Router and the WiFi Access Point (AP) devices are all up to date with the newest firmware releases. Also make sure you trace out your WiFin network! Often I find people poorly design their networks so its constrained! All it takes is a bad connection within the pathway to mess you up!

I've often had to deal with poor WiFi often I discover the WiFi band my system is using is also being used by others! This is always controlled by the AP device/s (your Internet side of the connection) not the Mac at all! But you need the correct tool to see what is hidden! To discover what your AP is set to and alter it so its not in competition with others.

The other issue is your AP's name! Think of it this way ... You're in a room with a dozen people who's name is Fred and you yell out Fred Please come here! Will you get one Fred or everyone? Thats the rub! Here if you have your AP named ACME you don't know which band will respond. So to get around this you really need to name each band a different name ACME2-4 and ACME5-0. So now you can control which band to latch onto. Otherwise the last used band will be used as that what was cached.
