Why does my UPS keep tripping a circuit breaker on my main board?

My UPS keeps tripping my mains (at least one of the circuitbreaker it is connected to). Regardless of which plug I use in the wall, the moment i switch on the UPS it trips my mains board. The UPS functions though as I am able to connect devices and use the battery power -- as long as the mains arent connected to the UPS. Faulty board inside the UPS? Could it be the circuit breakerinside the UPS which may be faulty?

Hi @fmariette ,

What is the make and model number of the UPS?

Mains supply circuit breakers trip due to the current flowing through them exceeding their rating.

If it is only the UPS that trips the breaker then there is a problem with it drawing more current than it should.

The UPS would have to be opened and tested to determine what the problem may be.

Have you tried other power outlets that use another breaker at all? Just wondering if you only tried outlets that were all connected to the same breaker, whether connecting the UPS finally overloaded the breaker due to it having too many other appliances etc, already connected to outlets on it, i.e it was already operating near its limit and connecting the UPS tipped it over the limit.

Most households have two power breakers (or fuses) so the outlets are split between the two.
