Is this a SATA-300 capable machine, or should it be fitted with a SATA-200?

They will both work but you may have to use the jumpers to downgrade to 1.5.

How will I know if I have to use the jumpers? Is it easy to do?
If you install the drive and are unable to format, add the jumpers
