Power not detected after battery replacement

My old iPhone 5s wouldn’t take a charge (after being left in the drawer for a long time). I replaced it with the ifixit battery and kit. After the replacement, the phone turned on with about 50% battery, and everything worked fine. However, when I plugged in the lightning cable, the phone did not detect the connection. The cable is fine: it works fine with another iPhone. Did I loosen some connections somewhere? Where should I look?

Its probably in the connections, look where you connected it.

As the other user commented, try checking the connections between the logic board and the charging port to see if anything is loose. Otherwise ensure that the charging port itself doesn’t have a build up of dust in the port, but if it does you can simply clean that out with some tweezers and a steady hand. I usually find most cases of no charging can be resolved by cleaning out about a centimetres worth of dust.
If the port is all clean, the connections are all clean and secure, the charging port may be faulty and need to be replaced, but it may be worth taking the device into a reputable repair shop for a diagnosis.

I tightened all the screws, and couldn't see anything loose inside. I did have a lot of lint and I cleaned it up. Still no power. One thing that is curious is that whenever I connect the lightning cable to the (off) phone, it wakes it up. That means something is connected, but it just won't charge.
