Console barely reads games

My Xbox has a tendency to crash when running a game. It gives me an error saying that the disk is scratched or damaged despite the game disks being in mint or near mint condition. The only games that seem to work are halo ce and halo 2, with halo ce crashing when I play the level directly after the level I last played. For example I would play truth and reconciliation and then quit. If I try to play the silent cartographer and the game will crash. I suspect that the disk drive is malfunctioning.
