Optical Drive To Mother board Teather cable ok?

A year ago me, was trying to fix this old ps2 from his parent’s friends, as it could not read ps2 disc and ONLY ps1 disks (no cds, no dvd’s, ps2 cd’s/dvd’s) and accidentally tugged a bit too hard and the teather cable from the mother board to the optical drive came out of the optical drive. i tried shoving it in there and it bent a little, ofc it never got it in, and then this OTHER teather cable came that i couldnt put back in because it was in below the optical drive and where the motherboard is so i ended up doing a tear down, is the cable still fit to use or no? and then how and where do i put them back?

Here is a picture of the said teather cable

While I cannot comment on the where or how, I can say from looking at the pics it doesn't appear to have any of the conductors broken. Do a continuity check to make sure. Long as you still have continuity it should be fine to reinstall. Will update if I find where it goes.

Edit: check here PlayStation 2 Slimline Motherboard Replacement

Since I'm not positive where that ribbon came from on either end, this DOES show ribbon connectors and might be just what you're looking for. Let me know if it isn't and I will search for more!

Alright, i read what you posted and haven’t gotten to the guide, the model in the guide looks way different from the one i own, on the inside that is. Aside from that, the whole thing has been disassambled. I have the parts neatly organized on the desk aswell as the floor (my desk is small). Just for information, the model is a 39001. The ribbon came from the bottom of the disk drive, the little white end of the ribbon where that white sticker is, has fallen off, i have it, but it wont stick back on… Do i just put the ribbon cable back into its little slot and lock the sides, also when i tried that it fell back out

also what is continuity

@dandude200 continuity is when you take a multimeter and put it to both ends of a wire (or in this case the ends of each conductor in the ribbon) and check to make sure it hasn't broken somewhere. With my Klein meter I select ohms and set it to audible so it will beep at me when it senses continuity.

@dandude200 Also the video looked like the fatter ps2 so since the slim isn't what you have maybe that will show what you need.

@brandon_k I’ve found out that you got to keep those little sticker things on the teather cables on them to get those things to say in their respective ports, just as a check up, have i gotten the teather cable correctly into the bottom of the optical drive correctly? or does it look correct?

it LOOKS correct. Is the adhesive on the tab worn out? Or what's going on with it? The white tabs are normally what you would use to remove/install the ribbon cables. The port should clamp down and hold it independent of that tab.

さんによる

@brandon_k some of the tabs have fallen off, i still have them though...

but the wires cant stay put in their slots without them even thought they look barely damaged

さんによる

More specifically the wire slots that dont have latches or locks, like the ones on the edge of the motherboard

さんによる

@dandude200 the one in the pic looks like it has something that moves. Either the grey slab on top or the little black tabs on either side. In the pic the little black tab on the left is out further than on the right. Are those not what I'm thinking they are? I've never seen a ribbon holder that didn't clamp somehow. But then my experience isn't extensive. I could be wrong. I'm just going off the pic

さんによる

if it ISN'T what I think it is, then you may have to order a new ribbon with intact tabs, if that's what holds it in place
