First connect a standard mouse to the laptop and then make sure the Touchpad function is enabled in Windows settings.

Click on [Start menu],

Select [Settings]

Select [Devices]

Select [Touchpad],

Make sure the Touchpad function is [On]

Then use the function key (hotkey) to enable/disable the touchpad function to ensure the Touchpad is not in the disabled status.

Note: The hotkeys function may be different based on different models, please refer to the User Manuals. Or, you can find the hotkeys location whether there is a touchpad icon (it usually located on F6 or F9 key), then press fn Key + touchpad hotkey to enable/disable the touchpad.

The other thing to check is the BIOS. Press the "F2" key as your computer is booting up and select "BIOS Settings" from the menu that pops up. Look through the settings until you find the Touchpad setting and make sure it is enabled.

If after all that it still doesn’t work then replace it:

Hope that works. Let us know how it goes or if you have any more questions.

Yes, it works. External mouse works well and settings of touch pad was off. Thanks a lot, Mark.

Terr>ble I font have a mouse and shouldn't need one to make my freaking asus laptop usable. Asus and windows should send me a new laptop because the product is faulty if you can't get the cursor back. This advice isn't helpful at all. Why should I buy a mouse

@robertclemens This advice is still helpful, even if you don't have any working mouse and cannot "click". When you are in Windows, you can use the tab key on your keyboard until you see a dotted grey outline around the start button. Then press space to "click" on that. With the start menu open, press tab over and over again until you get to settings, and repeat for all the steps above. It will only take a minute or two longer, but you can fully navigate all of these steps completely without a mouse.

Additionally, check your keyboard's F-keys. Any images on them are special functions that those keys can do. Common ones include little sun icons for brightness and little speaker icons for sound.

Many laptops have a function key that disables the trackpad. You may or may not need to hold an "Fn" key on your keyboard to use those functions, but if you have any that look at all like the symbol may indicate the trackpad, attempt hitting it and see if it reactivates yours.

F6 did end up working on my ASUS Vivobook laptop thank you and thank heavens although I had found it on Youtube in the meantime but I appreciate the right answer (for me) !

@robertclemens Glad you could get a solution. It is very likely you just accidentally hit that button one day. It is always a good idea to check those keys whenever something simple isn't working right. Depending on your computer model, function keys can disable the trackpad, sound, wifi, or even the screen. Sometimes airplane mode or a GPU or more are controlled by those shortcuts.
