Why are my Beats solo2 wireless headphones no longer discoverable?

The headphones wouldn’t connect several days ago. I made sure Bluetooth was switched on on only one device at a time but couldn’t get them to connect to any device (not my iPhone, iPad or MacBook). I pressed “Forget this device”, in order to try reconnecting, but since doing that the headphones are either not appearing at all in the list of Discoverable Devices or, when they do finally appear in the list nothing happens when I click on “Connect.” The little whirring symbol whirrs away, trying to connect but eventually up comes a message saying it was not possible to connect. The headphones still charge, and do the “pairing” mode thing of a red light flashing 3 times.

Are my headphones dead? Do I need to buy a replacement?

When bluetooth pairing most devices have blue or white leds flashing. Red is most used as a problem indicator.

I suggest you try a reset of the headphones following the Beats by Dre instructions.

Reset

Make sure your headphones are not plugged in to your USB charging cable.

  1. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds.
  2. Release the button.
  3. The battery Fuel Gauge LEDs will all blink white, then the first will blink red—this sequence will happen three times.
  4. When the lights stop flashing, the reset is complete.

After that try to pair again:

Pair your headphones

To pair your headphones with your device, follow these steps:

  1. If you were using the RemoteTalk cable, unplug it.
  2. Turn on your headphones. Hold the "b" button  down for 2 seconds to put your headphones into pairing mode. The LED indicator light will pulse white.
  3. To connect your headphones to your device, select Solo2 Wireless on your device. If you’ve used Beats Updater to rename your headphones, that name will display in the list.

Your headphones reconnect automatically to the last device that you used with them.

Thank you, gmantunt, but this doesn't help me. As I said in my question, most of the time that I try to connect my headphones they don't even appear in the list of devices, to which it might be possible for me to connect. On the increasingly rare occasions when the headphones actually come up as a discoverable device and I go through the pairing process it, eventually after several minutes, comes up with the "Pairing Unsuccessful" message on the screen, which says that I need to make sure that the headphones are switched on, within range and in pairing mode. They are switched on, within range and in pairing mode...........but they never pair. I'm wondering if the Bluetooth part of the headphones is broken......and if it's even worth trying to get them fixed, given that they were new in August 2016. It might be throwing good money after bad. But thank you for trying to help, anyway.

@weesister What is the reason this doesn't help? Did you reset the headphones following these instructions? Because your reply makes me think you didn't do that. "forget this device" is not the same. You need to reset the headphones themselves and not the devices they connect to. If the reset can't be done, is not successful and/or gives other LED signals you can post them here so we can look at follow up options based on the new information.

Well, gmantunt, you are a genius! I had tried the Reset many times but did not go on to the " Pair your headphones" part of your instructions, largely because the device had not appeared in my Discoverable Devices list. Anyway, after getting your reply above, asking if I'd done the reset as you suggested, I thought I'd try it again. So, I did the 1st part and then came to the "Pair your headphones" bit. Instruction no 2 worked: press button b and white light should blink - and after a short wait Beats Solo 2 turned up in the Discoverable devices list! They work! I can hear through them again! I am astonished as I had given up on them. Thank you for not giving up on me, even though I am not very technical. It was the slightly indignant tone of your comment that made me retry!

Have I said already that I'm very pleased to get them working again? If it wouldn't be too forward - and also against the Covid-safe rules - I would give you a big hug. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

@weesister I'm glad to hear you got them working again. Sorry for the indignant tone. I do this more often in my work because of people speed reading reply's because they are busy and missing the solution in it. I don't do it out of anger or irritation but to explicitly check if they got it right. Enjoy your headphones :)

Oh, no, gmantunt, don’t apologise for the exasperated tone since that was what caught my attention and made me decide to re-read and follow your instructions completely, to the letter! In my opinion, a bit of righteous impatience was fully justified!!!!

I picked up my Beats Studio 2s after not using them for a while. I reset them, but when I try to pair them by holding down the “b” button for 2 seconds, nothing happens. There is no flashing white light. The white lights actually go out. I’m having trouble pairing my beats and they are not discoverable in bluetooth. Any advice would be helpful! Please!
