TV goes black with sound and backlight still working?

Hi my names Tristan,

I have a 55" Phillips Android smart tv, after about an hour and a half or so the tv will lose picture... The backlight will be on and the sound will be on too but the screen will be black (backlight on though)

If I turn it off then back on it will work again but shut off almost immediately. The longer I wait before turning back it on. The more time it takes before it shuts off again.

Leading me to think something is over heating ? And then needing time to cool off?

But I'm not sure at all. Can someone please advise me what could be the part causing this and can it be replaced if so? Thanks in advance !

Hi @ace_shibui ,

Try using different input types i.e. HDMI, Component video, co-ax etc or different signal sources e.g. dvd player to see if the problem can be further isolated.

What is the model number of the TV?

Hey, @Jayeff I've tried multiple HDMI ports. It also happens with the smart tv functions (Netflix, prime, YouTube etc)

Seems like a loss of video so it could be the mainboard or a tcon board (if it is a separate board and not on the mainboard) not sending the video signal to the panel.

Having audio indicates that the mainboard is still functioning but this doesn't mean that the video circuits on it are OK

The sleep timer of your television is activated causing it to switch off accidentally. This issue can be fixed with ease. All you need to do is check the sleep timer settings in the Setup menu of your TV.

If the sleep timer was activated why would the sound still be on as well as the screen backlights?

It is not the sleep timer, it shuts off at inconsistent times, and the show is still playing, (volume) along with the back light still on
