Backlight works, no picture, Replaced TCON. XBR65X900E

I bought a TV 2nd hand, has an issue where the backlight works, and you can see it “highlighting” different portions of the screen, but no picture.

I replaced the TCON board with two different boards and same result. The service manual says that you can unplug the LVDS cables from the TCON to enter display “test mode” which will display test patterns. These do not come up either.

Is the panel bad at this point? Possibly the mainboard? If it’s the mainboard, it’s a rather expensive repair.

EDIT: No Flashing Light. Just a solid white light

Never found a solution. Ended up throwing out the panel.

I swapped the motherboard, and no difference.

had my tv diagnosed yesterday same issues and model as yours. said was the panel and cant fix so its garbage only 4yrs old. guess sony doesnt make panel replacements and is why its not fixable.

rockysnow9 … your model does not have test mode via unplugging the tcon. all you have is the blinks on the front of the panel. please let us know how many flashes you get.

when replacing the main board or tcon board on sonys: requires software installation for pairing boards together.

youll have downloaded a .zip file. unzip this on the root of the usb. it should say *****.zip after the initial unzipping from your download. place this into usb 1 and leave for 30 mins. the tv will do what it needs to do.

Tip: use a usb that has a light so you can gauge activity of the update. once you initially plug it in, about 2 mins will pass and youll start to see the usb light flashing indicating the process has begun. do not touch it for 30 mins after. after 30 mins, youll se no flashes from the usb stick and can power on the tv. do not remove the usb until after power on and update shows completed.

a solid white light indicates no fault on the systems boards. i would check your lvds cables and ribbon connections. also, when changing any mainboard or tcon board in your set, you have to pair the boards together via software update. This requires the software download and placed onto usb.

if the software install doesnt resolve the issue and the lvds cables test good....i would say its your panel.

@rockysnow9 ...requires a multimeter with continuity mode. there is a pin contact on each end of the cable. (many different lines) youll want to stick your red probe on one end and your black probe on the other. if it beeps or gives a resistance of ohms, its a good line. rinse and repeat for each contact.

if at any point it shows OL or doesnt beep, that line is broken.
