Boot device not found

Hi,

Please I need your help. I did a Windows upgrade from 8 to 8.1 and after the upgrade I wasn't seeing wifi connections so I tried to resolve this myself. With the suggestion I got from the virtual assistant, I did a BIOS configure and saved the default settings. Now I can't boot my PC. It keeps saying Boot Device Not Found. Please what do I do?

Hi,

Start the laptop and then quickly press the Esc key followed by F10.

This should get you into the BIOS menus.

When there check if the BIOS has detected the HDD.

If the HDD is shown in BIOS I’m not sure with the BIOS in your laptop but once in there it should show which keys to operate to reset the BIOS to the default settings. Try doing that, save the changes and then restart the laptop and check if it boots OK

@jesseyb

Try to perform a startup repair see Method 2

Easier to press Esc. It's the magic key on HP products. That said, the key is usually F10 on the modern ones.

Finally my PC has booted. I change the boot mode from UEFI to Legacy and it worked. So what do I do next? Should I still do the startup repair? Do I need to change back to UEFI or leave it as it is now?

@jesseyb

If it boots OK and it all works OK and that you can restart it in the usual manner after you have shutdown in the usual way then it should be OK so change it back to uefi and see. If not OK when you do this you may have to do the startup repair in case something else has been corrupted
