How do I fix a Lenovo ideapad 110 15IBR black screen?

I was looking at my sisters laptop because she doesn't take the time to update her laptop. When the update was done downloading I restarted the laptop so it can install like it wanted me to, but when I restarted it black screened. I don't know if it was a update problem, but I could really use some help! The laptop is on cause I can see the light and I can here the fan start up everytime I turn it on but it's just a black screen nothing more.

Hi,

Things to try:

1). Try to get into safe mode (start at Step.2) and if you can go to Troubleshoot > Advanced > Startup repair and follow the prompts.

2). Start the laptop and press the Novo button and check that you get a display and can get into BIOS. If so this proves that the hardware for the display is working and that it most probably is a software problem.

3). Try connecting an external monitor to the laptop’s HDMI port. Even a TV can be used as an external monitor as long as it has HDMI inputs and you have the appropriate cable to connect the two together. Remember to press F10 to toggle the display between the laptop display and the external display.

Hi @naiza228

I don't know why you can't get into BIOS when you start the laptop by pressing the novo button. That's in the firmware before the OS even loads, unless the BIOS has become corrupted somehow.

Can only suggest that you try a power refresh and check if it enables you to get into BIOS for a start. If so then you may be able to repair the OS if its’ startup has become corrupted.

Turn off the laptop if on and disconnect the charger if connected

Here's the hardware maintenance manual for the laptop.

Go to p.35 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove the battery. You don't have to remove it, only to disconnect it from the motherboard.

Once the battery is disconnected, press and hold the laptop's power button for 30 seconds and then release. This will restore the BIOS to its' default condition so hopefully it will start properly.

Reconnect the battery and reassemble the laptop. Connect the charger and turn the laptop on by pressing the Novo button and check if you can get into BIOS OK.

If you can get into BIOS now but after you restart the laptop it won’t boot into Windows, try the 3 start option as described in the safe mode link I posted i.e. force stop the laptop 3 times during boot, to check if you can now get into the Recovery area and repair the startup as suggested.

I started it up and presses the novo button but I never got any display. I also connect a HDMI cord to the tv and laptop and nothing popped up not even after I pushed f10.

@naiza228

Can you hear the HDD spin up when you start the laptop? I'm wondering if it is even getting past POST when you first start it up.

What lights are showing on the laptop after you start it? Are they steady or flashing?

さんによる

@jayeff yeah I can hear it spin up also when I put the charger in the laptop the light shows up fine, same thing when I turn it on. No blinking or anything like that it's pretty steady.

さんによる

I have the same problem but the light is blinking maybe around 10X per minute. What to do next?

さんによる

No signal from GPU or blown fuse(s) control back lights. It is motherboard. I have same problem and waiting for a new motherboard.
