Why is my ps2 burning some of discs?

I was watching a dvd with my mom and my ps2 started to make a clicking noise at first I thought it was the controller, but then it started to smell like smoke. I took the disc out and saw that it looks like it was starting to burn. What is going on and how to fix it?
