Phone battery smoked and I’m worried it might not come on.

Hi, I was repairing a customers phone. They described the phone getting stuck in a boot loop coming on in once a while and then it would get stuck in a boot loop again. The back of the phone got quite hot so I guessed it was a faulty battery. I took the battery out and as soon as I disconnected it, it started to smoke. I’m worried the customers phone could be damaged. The new battery is coming in 2 days but I’m really worried the phone could be damaged. Need some answers to help ease my conscience. Thank you!

As long as it was smoke coming from the battery and not the logic board it should boot up fine. If you have a multimeter you could check the main power rails “PP_BATT_VCC” and “PP_VDD_MAIN” But it won’t hurt the phone by replacing the battery.

Yeah it did come from the battery and I made sure to disconnect it so no harm would be done to the logic board. I disconnected before the smoke so I think everything is good. Unfortunately I don’t have a multimeter but do you think everything would be ok? Was planning on replacing the battery anyways due to random boot loops and shut downs coupled with excessive heat from the phone. Thank you for the reply, greatly appreciated!
