Morrison's Morphy Richards Soup Maker, Model 2164012

2回答 すべてを表示

Why has my Morphy Richards soup makers motor stopped working?

I'm not one for discarding items but after 9 months this product stopped blending. However, I'm sure it still manages to heat the temperature .

Model Number: 501015

Serial Number: 15018445

I have held on to this product in the hope I can fix it + bring it back to life. The signal is working when I plug it in at the mains. It appears the motor just won't operate as it should. I've looked inside the lid but it seems impossible to get beyond its exterior. Can you suggest if it's worth keeping hold of or not?

Thank you in advance

O

Ours stopped working and the shaft would not spin at all. Opened it up and it had leaked through the seal: the bearings at the bottom below the motor had seized as they had become contaminated (and wet). Pretty poor given it's less than two years old.

Ours is just under 3 years old - works other than blender part maybe Jim Purcells resolution is the way forward. Pretty shoddy for a machine costing over £100.00. Will avoid Morphy Richards in future.

Hi @makedomend ,

According to this link, there is a 1 year (possibly 2 year) guarantee on the product.

Follow the directions as to what to do to make a claim for a manufacturer’s guarantee repair or replacement.

That’s what guarantees or warranties are for.

Hello,

I tried this a couple of years ago as the product was a gift + came with no receipt. MRs advised me to purchase a new product, which I will not + could not help me further.

Thank you anyhow

@makedomend ,

As best as I can find out there are no spare parts available for the soup maker. So even if you managed to open it and find the cause of the problem, unless it were something as simple as a loose or broken connection you may not be able to repair it anyway.

Perhaps you are right to avoid manufacturers whose products are made this way i.e irreparable due to design and a lack of spare parts - planned obsolescence?

The landfill mountains continue to grow unfortunately as recycling efforts are being overwhelmed

The evidence of product waste I guess. Thank you

I’ve had 2 Morphy Richards soup makers, & both failed after only 2-3 years of occasional use. MR recommends buying a new one as they don't carry out repairs, which I find shocking in this day & age of being ‘greener’. If they could be repaired, it would save a lot of unwanted waste, but I guess its down to profits for the manufacturer being more important, by selling more products.

The same issue, obviously a design fault, read the above and binned it. Won't buy MR again.

Hi. I also had this problem and noted the chopping spindle was extremely hard to turn.

I took the machine apart carefully and the bearing was extremely tight and with a clean re-grease and high-speed spin with a drill, mine has got back to normal working order.

Hmm mine is the same. Hard to turn the blades by hand. Now it blends again but it sounds ropey. I’ll do some surgery on the guts as above, and report back!

After some serious surgery, I took mine all apart. The bottom shaft seal is ( I’ll be kind) less than perfect. After a while, moisture works its way into the shaft bearing and it seizes up.

I threw lots of WD40 and other lubricantants at it, tried two soups and it made two very noisy attempts and died.

Solotion(!). Bin man and buy a new one😤 Got the one with the sauté option. So far, it’s ok.

My 3rd one has stopped working…one day made soup…next day won’t turn on…I hate not been able to fix these things….I have reverted to my pressure cooker and hand held blender ( which I’ve had for 11 yrs)

Ours stopped, it definitely all to do with heat, water steam combo getting to places past seals etc, that cause these things to cease up. For us we got a towel and wrapped around the spindle/blade , use the towel to stop injury whilst holding the blade. And try to ease free the blade by turning it. It was hard at first but eventually freed up. We then connecting the motor /lid to the main metal pot and powered up, selected the BLEND mode and pressed the power button. At first it span slowly and eventually span faster. This has fixed the problem. Moving forward I guess the best thing to do is allow the lid/motor part to air dry with lid off. For a several hours after use, to allow all the possible trapped steam dry out? Also to check the blade spinning visually shine a torch thru the spout , when pressing the blend button you should be able to see it spinning.

Ours failed to spin during cooking program (after we had it about 2~3yrs).

To check if the motor worked at all, switching the appliance to standby, and the spin control set to position “1”, with a bit of wriggling of the canister slightly pitching it to a forward tilt (be very careful), it sprang to life! Slight rocking of the canister around this position would result in interruptions to the motor operation. This confirms that the main problem is the contacts between the canister and the base.
