I can't turn on my Notebook! I would need some help :(

Hello everybody,

I opened my Notebook Asus KV550VX to replace my old keyboard since it wasn’t working properly due to a mistake of mine (I accidentally spilled coffee on my Notebook). So after replacing it, I closed my Notebook and connected every ribbon cable properly but then I got a bad surprise! My Notebook did not turn not. I tried to buy a new ribbon cable for the power button but I wasn’t able to sort out this problem since even with the new cable the PC doesn’t turn on. As a result when I press the power button I get some lights on for an istance but nothing works. I can’t even hear the CPU working.

I took a picture of my motherboard ribbon cable clip and started wondering about the situation. I noticed some pins look like they are damaged and maybe this is the real reason why the Notebook does not turn on. What do you think about it? I don’t know what else could be. I can’t figure out what the real issue could be if not the motherboard pins (maybe burnt by the coffee).

Thanks to all who will reply

Greetings

What did you do immediately after you spilled the coffee?

Hi @sicario98 ,

Did you disconnect the battery from the systemboard after opening the laptop but before working on it, you didn't say?

さんによる

@aactech Unfortunately I didn't immediately turn off my PC but kept using it for like a half hour...Ony at a later time I read about turning it off as soon as possible

@jayeff Yes, I did

@sicario98 ,

Your image shows corrosion or burn marks or maybe it's even coffee but whatever, you need to gently clean it away using Isopropyl Alcohol 99%+ (available from electronics parts stores) and a soft brush to get a clear view of any possible damage and also to remove any possible unwanted electrical connections that may be still present.

Here's a link that may be of some help regarding liquid damage

Electronics Water Damage

After that if it still doesn’t turn on it will be down to testing the individual components in the area of the suspected damage. This will be very difficult without a schematic of the motherboard.

You could try searching online for the schematic by searching for (insert motherboard’s board number) schematic and hope for a result.

Other than that you may have to contact an authorized Asus laptop repair service and ask for a quote to repair the laptop. I say authorized as they should have access to the schematics. A lot of manufacturers, understandably, do not release this type of information publicly.

The motherboard was already cleaned several times so what it is shown in the picture is the actual damage

As I said after cleaning it will be down to individual component testing if possible. With some multi pin chips you may have to locate the datasheet for them from the information printed on the component if it is still visible, but without schematics to know where the traces lead it will be difficult

@jayeff Omg I don't have the right tools to get a diagnosis of it :(

@sicario98 ,

Replacement motherboards aren't cheap (examples only) so if you haven't got the equipment or more importantly access to the schematics for the motherboard, as I suggested contact an authorized Asus repair service for a quote.

It never hurts to ask and it may be cheaper than replacing the motherboard and if the repairers are reputable the repair will come with some sort of guarantee. Something to ask if you decide to take this route. If they don't give a guarantee on their workmanship find someone else.

Good luck.

@jayeff Yes, you are right, my motherboard would not be cheap to replace (it costs over 200 euro) so I would rather contact an Asus repair service. Btw what do the schematics for the motherboard consist of exactly?
