Black screen, reconnecting battery helps

Every time I try to boot up my machine I get black screen. There is no video output, it’s not a backlight issue. This happens every since I tried to reapply thermal paste. Strangely enough the only thing that helps is to reconnect the battery (for which I have to take the machine apart)
