Lightning Port Is Now To Tight

My wife asked me to look at her I-Pad Pro 12.9 (Model A1584) tonight. The issue she is currently having is that her new iPhone Pro Lightning cable dosen't fit her I-Pad.

This isn't an issue of something in the port like dirt or debris I verified and found nothing that would be impeding the charging cable getting into the port but it appears that the port is just physically narrower.

Is anyone aware of any dimensional changes by Apple to the size of the lightning cable.
