Completely dead and unresponsive iPhone

A few days ago my jailbroken iphone 3gs blacked out and would not turn back on. I figured the battery died so I put it on a charger, came back a little while later and it was back on. The next day it blacked out again, this time I knew it was charged so I tried to reset it (power/ home button), and it would not respond. About an hour later I tried reseting it again and it came on. It continued to randomly black out like this a few more times within the next few days and now will not turn back on at all. I left it on the charger for an entire night and day, I just put a brand new battery in it and charged that for an entire day and it still will not turn on or respond at all. After charging it with the new battery the back of the phone was a little warm like it had been charging but it still wont turn on, my computer wont read it, it wont even give me a flashing battery sign. The only thing I can think to relate to this was I updated some software in Cydia a few days before all this started happening, could this be related? Does anyone know how to fix this or have had the same problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am on T-Mobile so I cant just go buy another iPhone without having to sacrifice my kid's collage fund. Thank you all in advance for your time!

Ben, check all your connections are good, check the battery is/has received a charge, check the screw over the battery and the battery prongs. try again with the charging. If that doesn't work try removing the iphone motherboard from the case... let it sit somewhere nice and cool/calm and relaxing. next day install it. Having just been through all this with my phone, searching all around for a solution, checking fuses, panicking etc it seems a little rest was all it wanted. It may be that the fuses or the dock connector are the problem, but let's try the cheap alternatives.

I was actually thinking of doing that. Thank you for the suggestion. I'm going to let it sit overnight like that.

Update: I put the logic board back in the phone after sitting apart over night and still no power on. Was worth a shot though.

did you check the battery when you took the board out? get the multimeter onto the job! i think less than 2.7 and you get dead iphone syndrome. Buy a new battery and see what happens. then you'll be able to see if it charges etc. if doesn't charge then it's new dock time.(no soldering at all involved in iphone 3g)

I didn't check the voltage but I did put in a brand new battery and still got nothing. Will check the voltage on both batteries though. With a brand new battery I should get some sort of power before charging it, yeah? ...at least enough to trigger the "need charging" icon on the phone? I also charged the phone with new battery overnight, still nothing. I'm thinking more and more its the Power Supply IC, if thats the case it looks like I might be going back to my 3g that is slow as dirt...thats if I can get it to jailbreak and unlock for T-Mobile.

Ben,

I'm going to say its the charge controller on the board. If it ever overheated it could have damaged its circuitry and won't charge the battery properly or at all. A warm battery that didn't charge is indicative of either this controller or a bad battery.

Thank you very much for your advise. That would be something that wold have to be soldered, I'd assume? Either way I will look into that. Thank you again!

blah, this question is also old. Almost three years old. I bet by now it got resolved. BTW, LCD's don't "black out" just because they are old:-)
