Repair and disassembly guides for Kenmore Microwaves.

Is my microwave broken?

I just went to go microwave a bag of popcorn. About forty seconds in, the microwave started making a “bzzt” kind of noise and began flashing light on the inside (the light in our microwave doesn't work and we can't see much inside, so this is highly unusual). I panicked in fear of a fire. We unplugged it and put a “do not use” sign on the front to inform the rest of the family. Is it safe? Should we get a new one? Could a fire start even though it's unplugged?

@lanaalexander

you are safe for as long as you keep it unplugged. At this point I would suggest you either take it somewhere for repair or properly dispose of this one and purchase a new one. I would not suggest for you to repair it or even open it. There are a couple of heavy capacitors inside the MW that can carry lethal voltages if touched. So unless you have repaired MWs or are familiar with high voltages, keep it unplugged until repaired.

It will not come on fire while unplugged!
