LG Drain Pump Filter Fills with Water

Water pours out of the drain pump filter of my front load LG washer when I open it.

The water should be draining out of the drain hose.

I have the same problem too.

How do I check the drain hose is not clogged?

Any help will be appreciated.

I have same problem with my LG front loading washer. My little hose to drain filter has no water coming out when drained. My machine gets OE code, big drain hose is not kinked .

I have had this problem for years and --no solutions. It is not in any way clogged--I think the drive filter piece where the small hose comes from --is closed off somehow...

I have this same problem. When you say drain hose, do you mean the one behind the washing machine or the small one lower left in front? When I open the small lower left front one, very little water comes out. When I open the drain pump filter area, all the water (that is trapped in the washing machine) comes out.

I meant the main one. But any clogged hose can cause issues.

I found this post online tonight and thought my prayers had been answered. But I was disappointed to find that while this was EXACTLY the problem I am having, there was no real answer on how to solve it. Luckily I was able to figure it out on my own. So for the next person who finds themselves in this situation, here goes:

The problem was that the small drain hose inside the little door on the bottom left of the front of the washer was clogged with sediment. I learned this when I inserted a very long plastic zip tie into the drain hose and hit something solid not too far in. I tried burrowing through the sediment with the zip tie but the hose was too clogged for that.

Everything I read online told me that to clear a clogged drain hose I had to take the front of the washing machine off to gain full access to the hose. But my washer and dryer are stacked inside a very small closet and the idea of having to shimmy them out, uncouple them, and take the washer apart was the stuff nightmares are made of. I knew I had to figure out a way to unclog the tube from the outside.

I remembered once using a power washer to break through a clog in storm drain pipe that ran under a sidewalk, but I knew this job was way too small for that solution. Then I had an idea.

I found an old Water Pik that I don’t use anymore, the kind with a water well and a wand with a bunch of different accessories for cleaning gums. I took one of the long “aqua flosser” heads (the kind with the little curved end) and held it over the stove to soften the plastic so I could straighten it out. Once it was straight, I inserted the flosser into the clogged tube and turned the Water Pik on at the highest speed. I now had a mini pressure washer!

I alternated shooting water into the hose and working the clog with the zip tie. Each time I inserted the zip tie, I was able to work it deeper and deeper into the hose until finally, when I used the Water Pik, the water began flowing freely out of the filter side. (I had removed the plastic filter before I started shooting water into the tube.) I continued using the Water Pik until I had flushed everything clean then I capped the hose and put the filter back in. I knew the problem solved when I poured water into the drum of the washer and this time, when I opened the hose the water came out from there instead of from the filter.

Since I was on a roll, I used the Water Pik to flush out the rubber gasket around the outside of the drum and the area where the detergent runs down into the washer. Once I was satisfied that everything was clean, I ran the machine on long hot cycle with baking soda and bleach. Everything now smells clean and fresh!

I cleaned up the zip tie and the aqua flosser and put them in a plastic bag to keep them handy for periodic cleanings to keep the machine clean. Hope this helps someone else in this predicament!

This is amazing. Spent an hour trying to unclog with a wire. This worked in about 30 seconds.

Hello. this was so helpful thank you for posting. How long was your zip tie? I am using a doubled up green gardening zip tie. I can easily advance it about 16 inches into the hose before it hits what feels like a hard stop. I have been using the water pik but I am not sure that the reach is far enough to affect what might be a clog- or is that just how far the hose may go. I get a small amount of water that flows out of the filter when I use the water pik in the hose. However, when I put water into the drum, it still pour out of the filter basket area and not the drain hose.

My Drain hose pipe has NEVER worked ever! ALL the water comes out of the filter side and --water goes everywhere! This has been going on for years!

ebt_hon The zip tie I used was about 12 inches long. Not sure how you can it a doubled up zip tie into that drain hose. It definitely sounds like the hose is still clogged. Did you try using different speed on the Water PiK? And changing up the angle as much as possible?

Same issue except my hose is capped and pushed in. I just found 2 articles about this - 1 said access from the bottom and other said access from the coin trap. I’m gonna try both right now and I’ll be back…

Neither of those worked but I need to do a little more work to see about accessing from the bottom
