I had to replace the battery and screen on my daughters phone, the battery had expanded and pushed the screen out cracking the plastic surround. Everything went fine until I switched the phone on. The screen came on and looks fine but wouldn’t respond to touch so can’t unlock. I’ve checked the connectors several times, I even tried reconnecting the old screen and that wasn’t responding either. Any ideas?

Was the old screen still functioning well before you started the repair even though the old battery had expanded?
As we all know the market for iPhone screens can be a nightmare sometimes and it’s completely possible that you just got yourself a bad new screen. But if the old screen was functioning before and now none of them are, you might have a different problem.

To add on to what Pontus said it also could be the connection to the logic board just to disconnect and reconnect the touch cable a few times. REMEMBER to disconnect the battery before doing this. You could also try cleaning the connection with alcohol.

At the top of the phone so where the back camera is in that direction check the first flex for the digitizer part of the screen is plugged in firmly… on some screens on the 5c and 5s the flex pushes in however u notice the top half is not plugged in at all. So hold the screen back plug the digi connector first insuring the very top of it is securely in and the plug the rest in… not sure if that makes sense lol but some of the screens when ur plugging in the other connectors etc that top half comes out, remember to restart the phone after doing that to test it out :) failing that then u really need to make a thorough examination of that fpc connector and try a known working screen :)
Digitizer connector runs vertical to the phone and LCD connector runs horizontal :)

Thanks for your replies. Tried restarting the phone after checking connectors again, now in a constant reboot loop. Starts with logo screen then flashes orange, then goes blank, then back to logo screen. Only thing that stops it is disconnecting the battery. Just going to fetch my hammer……

That might be the front camera flex if it's doing a red screen of death... try it without the front camera connected
