After screen replacement smart keyboard won’t work or make device slee

I’ve just had a new screen put on my 12.9 iPad Pro. Since I got it back, my Smart Keyboard doesn’t work and closing the cover also doesn’t put the iPad to sleep. I’ve tried changing settings, reloading iPad and resetting it completely. No joy. The keyboard is only a few months old and worked perfectly before the screen replacement (by a 3rd party firm.)

is is this a common occurrence after a screen replacement?

From the teardown guide (step 21), there’s a smart keyboard flex cable installed on iPad Pro 12.9 1st gen.

My guess is either the cable is not properly connected or is damaged during the repair.

Can this be repaired without having to replace the screen? ie: Can the screen be removed and then re-installed?

@tangential Yes it can be repaired without replacing the screen, provided you remove everything with care and not damage any in the process. Based on this teardown guide: you have to remove screen, logic board, and battery to access the smart keyboard flex cable, this is a huge task for DIY repair. You mentioned the iPad had screen replaced, I assume you took it to a repair shop? If that's the case, I would go back to them for a warranty repair since it's primarily their fault.

Thanks for the info. The firm that repaired it for me (iMasterRepair.com) has gone dark on me. I'll be posting all about their (lack of) quality and customer service on every site I can find. Won't answer my emails or calls regarding this. I've dismantled my own MacBooks in the past, replaced their batteries, lids/screens, resoldered connections, etc. I'll see if I can find someone to do it; if not I'll tackle it myself. Its basically unusable for me in its current state.
