wt1101cw lg top loader

Hello,

My washing machine WT1101CW started to make a grinding sound last week. It sounded more like the plastic teeth on the drive assembly slipping. Not sure. I replaced the entire assembly clutch housing (AEN73131403). Put it back together, same thing. After reading and seeing probably 200 videos and posts, i was sure it was the clutch. Guess not.

I put it on special mode and tried to rinse and spin only. It will try to agitate, but jerk and make grinding sounds like something is not free wheeling the way it should be. I pause it and hit play again. Then it will try to spin, but after a few seconds, it gets stuck and jerks again like something is not letting it freewheel. Then after jerking around for 10 seconds or so, the tub stops and a humming sound comes from the right front of the machine, so I stop it.

I ordered one of the little diverter motor (4681EA1009H) a few days ago. Maybe this is the problem. It seems like maybe the little motor is not moving correctly and causing the clutch to not operate correctly. Thoughts, Ideas????

You said you replaced the clutch housing but did you replace the actual clutch?

Everything that comes with that part number associated with it, I replaced. 120 dollars worth. Everything in the picture you posted, yes. It included the washer drive coupling(ACP72929002 ), washer clutch band (MCJ61941202), washer drive shaft and shifter assembly. Is there some other part of the clutch that I am missing. The schematic diagram does not show too much. I have the washer brake actuator (4681EA1009H ) on order as well. I figured I might as well for 20 dollars. Thank you for replying.

Corey did you find the problem, I replaced the clutch assembly and diverter and still have the Sam problem you described?

さんによる

@barrypellegrin did you ever figure this out? Looking like it's a common issue. Yet myself, still unable to find the true cause of it? Thanks for any help.

@coreyerin May I ask if the brake actuator (4681EA1009H ) fixed it or not?

this could be caused by a bad hall sensor as well as a cracked rotor magnet. you did not tell us if your machine displays an error code or if you tried to run the diagnostics.

I have the same problem, and yes it will display UE. It sounds like a slipping plastic gear? The outer part of the drum jerks hard, stopping it from completing the spin cycle. Washer is only 2-3 years old. Thanks for any help.

I'm having similar issue. Replaced the clutch assembly, agitator plate. After replacing, ran a test load it is now spinning the tub into the side walls. The tub ring was eaten up and had plastic shredded. I'm not sure what else to change out.

Has anyone found a cause/fix to the slipping plastic gear sound. I am having the same issue on my 3 yr old LG top loading washer with inverter direct drive. Mine still runs OK, but started making the noise after we washed a sleeping bag. That was several months ago, but noise is getting louder. It does not appear to affect the spin cycle, although that is the only time the noise occurs.

@josephwilson the rotor spline loves to wear out on these. If you would take it apart, you could see how all of that is wearing out with those loads (sleeping bag, bedding etc.)
